I've been hanging around and posting for a couple of weeks so I thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself. A friend of mine and I recently purchased a 1991 318i that we are slowly turning into a dedicated autocross/track car with the probable ultimate goal of running in the SpecE30. That is probably several years off, but we run our first autocross next week. The car is in fairly good shape considering its ownership history. We bought it from a co-worker who also bought from another of our co-workers. She bought it used several years ago and barely maintained it. The other guy bought it from her when the fuel pump died and he's been running the crap out of it for the last year. He was feeling the need to replace the clutch and didn't want to spend the money so we bought the car from him for a very good price. So, it needs a clutch, the suspension is very tired, the paint is in horrible shape and it's got some rust issues in the trunk wells. So far we've replaced the thermostat, changed the oil (Valvoline Max Life Synthetic, no leaks!!) and generally cleaned it up. We hope to get the rest of the driveline fluids changed and get the suspension replaced in the next couple of months. I'll keep you guys posted as to our progress as we go along.
As for me, this is my second BMW. I'm the original owner of a 1998 318ti that I bought when I was stationed in Germany(Army). I've been autocrossing it fairly successfully in our local BMWCCA(National Capital Chapter) events for several years now. It's a great car and I love it. And it's just similar enough to the E30 that I'm comfortable with tackling projects on this new car. I'll probably have lots of questions for you all and you've been very helpful so far. Someone on the 318ti Yahoo group suggested this forum to me and I'm very glad that it's here. It's been a great resource so far.
