COP Wiring
« on: May 19, 2011, 09:21:03 PM »
Do I have this COP kit wired properly? Is there any way to tell for sure?

I installed this engine with a new (to me) wiring harness and I need to know how to know which plug goes to each coil. I think I have it right, but I need confirmation.

Also, there are two eyes in the engine harness next to the branch-off for the coils and the 02 sensor. Are they both grounds?

Thanks in advance.

To be totally sure, I'd do a continuity test to the pins on the DME.  The right ones are listed here somewhere.

I'm not totally sure about the eyelets, I'll take a look & let you know.  If they're brown they probably go over to the lug on the wheel housing.

One eyelet is a ground right to the empty space next to firewall where the older e30s have the battery. Not sure about the second one. I would have to check mine.

Can someone please direct me to a diagram or something that shows the pins to test to make sure that I have the right plugs  on the right coils?

I assume you removed the harness from the original coil pack without marking them and now you don't know which harness leg goes to which coil. I think the only recourse is to check continiuty of the black wire back to the ECM.

Coil 1 (front) connects to pin         25
2    to pin                   52
3          to pin             24
4                  to pin     51
