here's my first question on this board, and let me say i LIKE kittens, and wouldn't want to kill any. my search efforts were unsatisfactory on this question and i am willing to be shown if this question has actually ever been asked.

i would like to know for sure whether a consensus on this board supports owning both the e30 and e36 bentley manuals for reference to work on a '91 318is. i understand the e30 will not support the engine but i want to know if the other information is extensive enough to justify purchase.

new owner of the car; owned it only since yesterday 14:00 pdt.

Yes get the e30 manual. I have the e36 (m42) version on pdf that I found on rapid share. Also the e30 factory manual covers both engine and rest of car.

Agreed. When I had my e30 running,i went to the e36 manual and to this website for support.I used the e30 manual for all body interior and electrical uses as well as torque specs for things such as differentials and exhaust diagrams.

Honestly, check this site and ask people in their specific niche. If you cant find it here, it is probably online but from experience, always post on this site first.

I have applied to many sites for my Audi a4 and they all suck.. Everyone goes to a mechanic and no one is a true gear head without being gay about how their car is functioning.

Almost everyone on this forum can help you and can help with any specific question. No question is stupid to ask here because some people have trouble with these cars.Good luck with your e30 and if anything happens to it mechanically, ask here

Just like tools, I believe you can never have too many manuals laying around. I have both *Bentley manuals, the BMW TIS/ETK (Ebay) and several PDF documents gleaned from the internet. Check the first three stickies in the FAQ/Reference section to get started. You'll be glad you did:D.

*I would say the E36 Bentley is more of a "nice to have" manual and I have one because I work on a few E36s. If not for that, I think I could get by fine without it just like Birdman advises.
