Good Non-OEM Oil Filters?
« on: April 14, 2009, 08:55:19 PM »
I want to change my oil this weekend and don't have any oil filters. I usually use Mahle or whatever Bav Auto sells, but I have no need to place an order (why pay shipping for one oil filter?) and don't feel like driving to the dealer that is more than 20 miles away (plus I hate that place).

Which brings me (finally) to my question: Are there any decent oil filters obtainable at local auto parts stores?

I have used all the ones from autozone, from purolator, stp and fram. All work ok. Just more expensive than OEM and OEM is good quality.

I have a few for $5 with cheap shipping. You can get more than 1 so that it comes out cheaper on shipping and have more for future oil changes. They are Mahle.

Thanks all. Cobra Jet, good tip on the STP filter. There is an Autozone less than a mile from my house. Picked up the filter for $5.49 this morning and just finished changing the oil.

No problemo!  I've used the STP filter several times now (I drive 114 miles per day, so my oil changes come about more frequently) and I've never had an issue with those filters.  It's great being able to buy them locally without having to wait for an order to arrive or paying shipping fees as well.  I usually buy 2-3 at a time, this way I'm stocked up on them at home.   :)
