So there is a noise coming from somewhere on my car that changes when I step on the clutch. I searched and I am guessing it is the throwout bearing? Also in my search people said if it was that it should be checked out/replaced immediately. I just went out to get groceries, and I noticed this. Before, it made a noise only when the clutch was not depressed, vibrating-like. Now it is making a terrible noise when depressed, and virtually no noise when not. Here is a vid:

In the outside video, when I turned it off the first time, I had the clutch released, and the second time I turned it off, I had the clutch depressed.

I love this car. This problem is burning a hole in my being. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks for looking.

not a pro at clutch noises... throwing out an easy check for you... is your brake fluid full? clutch shares the same fluid with the brakes, might not have enough??? throwing out ideas here...

it could be internal bearing issues as well, when you hit the clutch it takes the stress off of multiple bearings

very difficult to determine through your videos. The engine is a lot louder so hard to tell. Could be a number of things. I would pull out the gearbox and check whats going on. Usually the release bearing will squeal loudly. Vibration could be something. Check driveline bearings and uni-joints as well. What happens as you change gears?

I wish it was this simple. Brake fluid seems to be at the correct level.

All is well switching gears, no problems whatsoever. My shifter bushings are decently worn though, so if I push the shifter towards the engine while in first, it changes the length of the throw, and if I am shifting fast, I might release the clutch too early, not that it has anything to do with this. But no, everything is smooth.

I had the same problem after replacing the tranny on a 535i. It wasn;t the throwout bearing but the pilot bearing in the flywheel.

Well unfortunately I still don't have enough information, so I suppose I will have to take out the transmission and check everything out, which is exactly what I wanted to avoid. I can't afford to have my car sitting in the driveway with all kinds of shit laying around, waiting for parts to arrive, which could take around a week.

I am still looking for your opinion on what could be wrong with my car. If anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate it. Meanwhile, I will be completing my research on DIYs, and gathering tools I don't have for the job. God help me.
