Author Topic: Will this temporary fix to my crankcase ventilator cause any problems? (Read 2641 times)

1995 318i

My ventilator went bad, causing a horrible idle and horrible squeal. What I did was pull off the hose, capped the ventilator, and put a breather on the valve cover. The ventilator still vents even though its blocked off.

Is this ok to run for awhile? Or am I losing any benefit of not having it hooked up? I thought it just worked like an EGR valve, recirculating gases.

Here is a link of the style I am talking about, it bolts on the TB warmer plate between the upper and lower plenum, and has a hose from the valve cover attached to it. It is part #11

I need to know if the engine is counting on that gas to be put back into the intake, becasue I swear I am running rich at idle now.

I also was wondering if since the ventilator still vents to the atmosphere even when it is blocked off, that its really me losing intake Im building due to a bad diaphram in the ventilator.

When this part first starting making noise I noticed I got a code 1222 around the same time. Could this have anything to do with it? I still get the 1222 if I am idling for a long period of time but it dissapears as soon as I blip the throttle.

1222 means its either running too rich or too lean for 10 seconds.

Im gonna guess too rich at idle due to this CCV being funked up, I bet the ECU expects to see that extra exhaust gas at idle.
