How do you deal with the AC bracket on a Timing Rebuild?
« on: March 29, 2009, 07:13:32 PM »
I'm trying to remove the lower timing case and it looks like the AC bracket will have to come off.  The AC bracket has been a bitch to get at, even from underneath.  (it does have to come off... right?)

Any suggestions on how to go about this?

BP's site doesn't mention the AC... course they don't really need AC is Ireland. Did BMW engineers design this just for the AC loving americans?

THanks!

There are 4 long bolts holding the compressor to the bracket.  They can be hard to see if the engine is oily/dirty.  Once you remove them use some wire to secure the compressor from falling and possibly damaging the ac hoses.  Then remove the 2 bolts from the lower timing case and then I believe there are another 4 bolts attaching the bracket to the block.  Its pretty straight forward.

In regards to the AC comment, I don't know too many people who like to sweat/stink to the oldies while driving to work in 90 degree weather
