cooling system ouch's

ok, so I am putting back together a 318ic that the po had blown head gasket and cracked head

I have two problems

1) the bleed screw is broken off, wish I had noticed earlier, and is jagged. I did not notice this because the po had siliconed the top of the scew in place, I did not know until I went to bleed it. I tried putting an easy out into it, but no luck, being plastic the easy out just wants to dig on through
it looks like if I take the top cap off like as if removing the expansion tank, I can grab the sucker and twist it out...maybe not...so how do you get the expansion tank top off, and/or is there another way to fix this problem

2) while doing all of this, I did the switch to the volvo electric fan and replaced the sending unit on the radiator. I replaced all the fuses, I am pretty sure it is wired correctly ground to ground,(volvo black ground to BMW brown ground ) red to red , and the two mismatched colors. on the bench it all worked fine, both speeds.
is there another sending unit somplace ?
all the other electrical items work that share the fuses
no fuses blow
I also deleated the a/c...do I need to run somekind of jumper

so I put a screw and rubber washer into the bleed screw and fired it up. car got very hot, fan never kicked on, luckily I had wired in a jumper, just in case, so when it got hot, like way past half way but not in the red, I hit the jumper. the car quickly cooled down to just under half

I was also getting plenty of hot iar at the heater vents

also during this head replacement I deleated all those throttle body heater junk things, was gonna run caps, but ended up just running a loop of hose

any ideas or help would be very appreciated

Wish I could help you with the fan. I was planning on doing the same mod with the volvo fan because I saw it in another thread. From what I gathered the guy just grabbed a 17 inch fan outta like a volvo 940 w/the resistors for the fan and he said it wired right up, 3 wires and that was it. Did you grab the resistors for the fan as well?

Maybe your A/C delete has something to do with it, but usually there is a seperate sensor for the A/C fan to kick on. Keep the thread updated.

For the broken bleed screw, have you tried making a slot in the plastic for a screwdriver or maybe use a centre punch and try hitting it anti-clockwise to try and loosen the left over part. Good luck with this, I ended up buying a new radiator.
