e36 Fuel Issues
« on: December 31, 2008, 09:39:58 AM »
Ok, I have a 94 318 that has been parked for a couple of years. The fuel pump went out and I replaced it with a used one. It started up again but sputtered when reved and backfired some (exhaust backfire). I tried starting it up again in a week and nothing. The pump was burnt up again. Bought another pump and it is working now but now the car wont even attempt to fire at all. I did drain and flush the tank of the old gas and put in a new fuel filter. I know it has spark because I checked with carb cleaner in the intake and it would fire. I have also replaced the fuel pressure regulator and replaced the plugs which were fouled with dry black residue. The fuel rail has pressure in it. The next step would be the injectors correct? Could water in the old gas have blocked them to the point it will not fire at all? I read something about the cold start injector could be stuck open floding the engine. It looks like a big job to try and get to the injectors? Could it be anything else. Hoses are good too, at from what I can see with the intake on. I am just trying to get it up and running again so I can sell it. Thanks for any help.

I have sent the injectors in for testing and cleaning. Hopefully this will solve the problem since no one else seems to have any thoughts
