Megasquirt swap before turbo
« on: December 10, 2008, 04:53:27 PM »
I have a 91 3.18i with the m42 1.8L
and im looking for a few more ponies!
First step i was going to replace the stock contol unit with a megasquirt system that contols fuel and ignition, with the addition of a new ignition system with coil packs made to match the bmw plug wires, possible new injectors and and adapted fuel supply system. also going to add a new intake runner system to include IAT and MAP sensors. I also need to add a knock sensor to the engine that i plan to take from a new m42.
once i get the car to run on the megasquirt i am going to rebuild the motor and replace the pistons and rods, add layered metal gaskets, and possibly work to the head then adding a G3 turbo and plan to run with in the range of 10lbs of boost on mostly stock parts.

Has anyone done this before?

What is the best option for intake and exhaust manifolds for the better flow without doing extensive work to the heads or valve train?

Anyone got any ideas?
