just this morning saw a tv program called 'musclecar' (spiketv) where they showed tinting techique.

apply the un-protected side (future inner side) to the outside of the window to cut the pattern. i think they just used soapy water and a squeegee to get it to stick. on the rear window of the car they were doing they used a heat gun to get the film to take the shape of the rear window, because of it's compound curves. the car was early '70's barracuda. then, clean the inner side of the window & apply soapy water. peel the protective cover off the film, apply soapy water then remove from outside and install on the inside. i'm sure it's not as easy as he made it look, but that's how-to.

something that turns me off the idea are the heating wires. i would say once the rear window is tinted you would no longer have defrost. the heat would ruin the tint job.

Yea you can tint the whole rear window with one peice make sure you have lots though its not as easy as it looks. The defrost still works and doesnt change thhe color of the tint.

FWIW - I've had the rear window of every car I've owned since 1990 tinted, and it works fine, as long as the installer has the skills to do it properly. Doing it yourself - the defroster will still work, the tint color shouldn't change as long as you use quality film, but you may not be pleased with the results. Make sure you are working in a clean inside area (not outside).
