how do I remove these?
« on: September 06, 2008, 09:03:14 PM »
I am pulling off the oil filter housing to correct a leak, and there is an alternator mounting plate in front of the housing that must come off to allow access to all the oil filter housing bolts.

There are bushings that contain a long hex bolt holding the alternator at the top of the plate (not the geared thingy.)

How do I get those bushings out?  There is a bolt hidden away behind them that will enable me to get the plate off, and ultimately the oil filter housing.

Thanks for any insight.

I keep trying to attach a diagram from RealOEM, but I always get an "attachment failed" message.

can you see where the 2 bushings meet? try prying them apart with a screw driver. otherwise stick the bolt in a little and wiggle it around

Ah, good idea.  There is a hole in the plate to get a socket through and get at the bolt.  You can see the bushings through this hole.  I will attack tomorrow.

Thanks.

You can't link directly to the Realoem page that has the part descriptions below the image, but you can link to the image directly. I use Firefox so right click on the image and select "view image". Copy the URL, then in the advanced oprtions in this forum select "Insert Image" and paste it in the box.

Thanks Wizard.  The bushings I am referring to are #'s 2 in the above diagram.

Thanks to nickmpower.  I popped them apart in about 2 seconds flat.  I kid you not.

I have an iMac, perhaps my management of attachments is different.
