I get a light ticking sound when accelerating, up to about 2000 rpm, and the noise then dies away. If I accelerate slowly there's no ticking.
It sounds like light detonation - it's not exactly dieseling. It doesn't sound like the steady ticking associated with injectors (which are new), it's a bit more random.
Is this normal? Maybe it's not det at all.
I might try higher octane fuel to see if this cures it. If not, I might try recording the sound. It's not particularly loud, but having said that I've not been inside the engine bay to listed to it whilst accelerating under load!
I rebuilt the top end 13000 miles previously following a timing case profile gasket failure, and also took it to an indy garage to check the alignment of the the camshafts, so I'd be surprised if it was det.
The engine is nice and quiet following replacement of chain, sprockets, guides and tensioner - maybe that's why I can actually hear this sound. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm just worried the valve seats are slowly being eaten away.
