Gasoline smell inside the car
« on: April 17, 2010, 03:29:44 PM »
I can smell gasoline real strong inside my 91 318i. I've already replaced the hoses around the fuel pump and the gas odor still exists. I've searched the forum and no write ups on gas smell/odors, etc...   I'm guessing that the O-ring that seals the fuel pump may be bad.  Any thoughts on a fix to the gas smell inside the car?

just pop off the rear seat cushion, pull back the liner and look at the fuel pump access area. it's in the right-center section of the seat

Mine was leaking here when I had a bad gas smell in the car.

Replacing the tank was a major pain especially working on jack stands.

There are two access covers under the rear seat .Take both covers off and start the car and look for leakage .Mine was leaking across the top of the  tank and clearly visible.
