Crank bearing color
« on: July 28, 2008, 05:22:40 PM »
Rebuilding m42 engine, when ordering the crankshaft main bearings my dealer asked me for the color codes which are aparently on the bearing shells. I have removed all the main bearing shells and cannot find any color codes. Does anyone know where these would be? A picture would be really helpful! Thanks.

Look for dabs of paint on the crank or on the bearing caps--not on the bearing shells.  If no paint is present, then you probably have a factory original-size crank.

You need to have your crank measured out if you cant find the original colorcoding on your crant. It often dissapears over time

I posted a table a while back where you can cross refrence the color code with the journal size.

You have to look into this.
