Another ICV problem

Might be time for a new one, not sure... If i unplug the ICV the car wants to die but if i help it out with a little throttle it idles fine. If i plug in the ICV it surges like crazy. I've tried cleaning it out with both carb cleaner and WD-40. Hasn't made the slightest difference. Also, when shutting the engine off the ICV makes a clicking noise as it slams shut, not sure if that's normal or not.

If you take out the ICV and you shake it, you should hear a clicking. That is the door valve opening closing. If it is gunked up, you will hear this. Also never use WD40. I try to fill mine up with carb cleaner, then start to tap it with a rubber mallet to loosing debris up. Do it at least 5 times and the longer it sits with the liquid inside, the better. If you unplug the ICV, the car should go into a loop, with RPMS going up then down, then back up, then down until you plug it back in. Looks like you might have an intake leak somewhere.

I will fill it with carb cleaner again. Do you completely fill the ICV with the motor down towards the ground or do you just soak the portion the air flows through? I'll check again for vacuum leaks again... I deleted the 'mess under the intake' in hopes that it would solve my problems, but maybe i forgot something. Thanks for the info on how you clean it out! Hopefully it works for me as well.

with the motor facing down. I just put my finger over one hole and fill it up slowly. then cover other hole with other finger and really shake it, tap it and then leave it on the floor prop up to keep holes up and not letting any liquid come up. I just stood it against the wall.

I was able to get a used verified working ICV valve off of E30tech for around 35$.. a new one is around 140$ or so from what i found....
