To Tint or not to Tint?
« on: October 18, 2010, 12:30:00 AM »
What do you guys suggest?

I have no complaints with no tint and never seen a car where i was like...they could really use a tint. However i have seen cars where i was like...they really should NOT have gotten that tint because for some reason it just looks bad. Im talking e30 here not just any random car.

So why am i asking..? Well i would like to get one because i dont really want people looking in my car plus i just like being in a car with tinted windows...not sure why, i just do. I have noticed that light tint of like 50 or less looks good. Any suggestions on a %? Blue as opposed to black...silver? I know everyone has their own opinion on what looks good but...throw ideas around and one may find that some people have really good taste:)

I dont know much about tinting and was wondering if any of you guys would know anything about it.

Thanks in advance. Hope this goes somewhere...just on food for thought

I've got one step lighter than limo tint in the rear and 35% on the front two. Black tint. Seems just about perfect to me.

My tint looks a lot darker in my sig than in real life.  This still makes it look darker than it is but you get the idea:

Wasnt sure if it'd work on a white car but that looks good! I think 35% is the legal limit for me so thats what i'd look like cause i have a white car too.

I have tint on my white e30. It came with the car when i bought it. It was pretty much old and purple when i bought the car. Once I repaint it, ill put some actual black tint in the windows. It should look a lot better. I think tinted windows are really nice to have, but if its too dark it can be a PITA to drive at night. But i never really had that problem in my beamer... just my truck.

I'd like to see some more pictures in this thread.  I have about 7-8 months before I have to get my car tinted.  I don't want to go super dark, the 35% on the front of Yeti's car looks good.

Mine when I bought it and how it is now.  Crappy pics, but hopefully you get the idea...

For reference, here is my last E30 (yes I kick myself every day for selling it).  It had limo in the back 3 windows.  A bit much and I think it looks better to not be so dark, but it really did a good job of keeping the car cooler and preserved the interior exceptionally well.  I've got a couple better pics of it in direct sunlight, but I can't find them in my smugmug or photobucket accounts.  Hopefully this will give you the idea.

Nice parking job. :p

I'd just pushed it out of the garage after finishing putting it back together from this:

It sat for close to 6 months after my last knee surgery since I couldn't walk let alone work on a car.  I had just finished doing a new clutch, aluminum flywheel, valve adjust, radiator, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, brake rotors, pads, fluid, and a couple other things.  It had a dead battery and I pushed it out to that spot.

As a matter of fact, I put the tranny in by myself, in that garage, with my leg in a hip to toe immobilizing brace to finish the clutch job.  To make a long story short, I was obviously planning on keeping the car for a long time.  Then my girlfriend left me.  Then I didn't want the car any longer and bought my first GS.

Now you know how I started down the ADV path and a little Sally history.  At least I met the right girl through it all.
