the light on the button lights up but doesnt go up or down..anyone know how to diagnose this problem, and if i need a replacement, i wouldnt mind if you share the p/n

Multimeter - check to see if you are getting voltage at the lead that connects to the window motor. If you are, perhaps a bad motor, if you aren't perhaps a wiring problem.

You should be getting +12V at either wire that connects to the motor, violet with a white strip or black with a white strip, depending on whether you are trying to put the window up or down. Dunno which is which, but it's pretty easy to figure out.

If your other windows are working, I would suspect the motor.

kool. okay i disconnected for awhile, then it started working, then it stopped working after awhile..

clean the switch contacts. take it apart, take a little sandpaper, and clean the corrosion off the brass tabs.
fixes it about 99% of the time.

After cleaning the switches didn't cure the problem, went to the salvage yard and pulled two rear door harnesses (part number 61 12 1 381 097 -- left or right they are the same). Removing and replacing x 2 = problem solved.

In my case, the repeated opening and closing of the rear doors had flexed the wiring to the point of causing three wires to break cleanly on one harness, and frayed the insulation of two wires on the other causing a short. The point of failure on both was inside the grommet that is between the B-pillar and the rear door.
