Replacing Oil filter housing
« on: February 29, 2008, 03:11:25 AM »
Hi
Is Oil filter housing (plastic type and metal type) interchangeable ?

i have a newer M42 with plastic top cover, and it will not stop leaking.
i have a Metal one on my M40 engine which works great and does not leak at all

any ideas? can this swap work? the metal one on the M40 is identical to the one on the M42

I put an E36 M42 in my 1991 318is. It had the plastic filter housing. I bolted on the E30 metal filter housing with no problem.

thanks

the thing is that i have this massive oil leak from the filter housing, and i was thinking, in case im taking the damn thing out anyway, why not moving to the aluminium filter housing with the nut cup, it is much easier to deal with than the plastic cover that forces u to use oil-filter tool.
