E30Zone Wiki - M42 page
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:05:42 AM »
Morning folks,

I've been rebuilding the E30Zone's Wiki pages for the past year, and I've finally got round to doing the M42 page which can be seen here:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/M42

The Wiki is biased to the E30 version of the engine, but there are comments about the E36 differences. Feel free to check it out and if you feel there's anything missing or incorrect, just let me know and I'll get it amended.

Have a bit of cross-forum love :D

Wilco, thanks for the update.  Nice to see the old site getting updated.  I don't know the later M42 well enough myself, I'll update anything I learn if it's incorrect.

Great information! Particularly the differences between them, and the info on internals for NA builds.  Are there any detailed write-ups on building out a 2.0 or 2.1?

DJMoss: I know we have a few write-ups here about the MM Rally/S42-style upgrade.  IIRC it's a machined M47 crank & custom or M3 pistons.  I'll see if I can't dig up some threads.

OP: Hey - I found a few errors!
Halfway down the page in the "Crankshaft" section.  The M42 is only a 4-cyl...thus it cannot have twelve crank counterweights.
Later M20 flywheels and starter motors  (post '88) are compatible with the M42.  The earlier pre-1988 model has a different tooth pitch.  It's also possible to swap the bendix drives on Bosch starters to compensate.

That page is great! Thanks for setting it up!

Any chance of getting the injector upgrade info?  Either the mustang swap or equal?
