Hey guys, just got my first BMW, a 91 318 IS, and i have to say i am impressed. Of course i would be even more impressed if i had a 2nd gear.

I.ve been reading and lurking and have a few ??'s.

I have an E30M42 correct?

Is there a parts interchange online somewhere? like what trannys fit my car, etcetc?

Cant wait to get a little more knowledge under my belt to really use this car to its advantages. My first order of businessis to get it running reliably, fix the tranny, and fix the heat. After that, a skidplate for that low hanging oil pan and then it will be my DD and Rally-X car.

Thanks for your help.

M42B18 actually.

Not really any parts interchangers, you can use realoem.com and reference part numbers. other then that, searching the forums to see what has been done is the other method.

where abouts are you located?

for good deals on parts try bma.com, or pelicanparts.com

http://store.666fabrication.com/ is a great place to get a skidplate, and they are pretty popular. It may be awhile before they have enough time to make one for you, though.

Yeah, i was on their site last night.....looks like they are currently playing catch-up on their present orders. I will definatley be getting a skid plate. I have to go into my drive at a more severe angle than my lowered Neon.
