M43 fitment?
« on: December 03, 2007, 04:42:16 PM »
Found a wrecked Z3 and I can pick it up for cheap. Has super low miles and was thinking about just swapping it into my 91 318. Is it pretty straightforward? All the mounts the same? Oil pan need to be swapped? any info would be great.

You sure it's a M43? The M43 is an 8 valve engine, and is inferior in most respects to the more powerful 16-valve M42.

does the engine in your car work?  If so there is no real advantage to switching to the m44.  It might have a couple more hp/tq but that is hardly worth an engine swap.

But from what I here it is pretty straightforward.  It has been done several times.

my engine runs but the new one has extremely low miles and I plan on keeping the 318 for awhile. I have done many swaps including an S50 into a 94 325is, tons of mazdas and toyotas so doing it isnt really anything more than a cool weekend and a case of becks. I'm just more concerned in finding out if it is a direct swap or am I looking at a wiring and mounting nightmare.

I'm not the last word on this but I think 99 cars had EMS, electronic chips in the key for anti theft.  I'm sure there are ways around that.
