MoTeC Tuning done
« on: August 29, 2007, 06:13:16 AM »
Hi all,
I know this is a little off topic for the M42 but I just had to let you all know how we are going with the MoTeC on the E30 M3 that I help look after.

We have just put the "new" 2.3 ltr back in after a rebuild. Took it up to the dyno yesterday and got 197.8 KW at the wheels :).

This a NA engine don't forget (but it is a race car). We were pretty happy with it as the "new" engine is putting more out than the old one (2.5ltrs).

I have not had much to other aftermarket systems but using the MoTeC is so easy and we are using the old M48 ECU.  Our biggest problem is that the M48 will not run with the M3 standard 166 tooth flywheel, so the gumbys that did the install put a dodgy chopper wheel on the crank.

I guess it works ok (the power figures show it) but we don't have a sync sensor now cause they buggered it up.

We did all the tuning on the MoTeC using the graphs for fuel and ignition. it was heaps easier to adjust the graph than play with numbers.
We also updated the start, accel, decel, 1st start trims and the little beast just purrs.

The next phase is the fine tuning at the track (this Friday). I guess that will be where I get to make the most difference to the tune. Unfortunately I only have half a day to get most of it done, and then I have to be off while the racing is on the rest of the weekend.

I have decided that if I am going to replace the ECU and associated systems on my IS (if the current ECU spits it), I will cough up the fun tickets for a MoTeC. I know there are cheaper options out there but the back up and service from the company has been second to none (once we got away from the dodgy installers) and you do get what you pay for.

I will let you know how the track tuning goes.
