M42club,

I wanted to give a quick introduction as a new member of this forum.  I recently purchased a pristine low mileage 1991 318i sedan from the original female owner.  This was enough of a find to get me to sell my 1995 M3.  It has all the options for the sedan; sunroof, lsd and foglights. I can safely say I enjoy this car in stock form MORE than my old '89 E30 M3- amazing how much can be said for a car kept in great condition.

So far, I have added the MarkD chip and the "is" lip spoiler.  I plan to add some wheels, suspension, and driveline enhancements during the coming year.  I will keep the group updated and surely leverage many of you for valuable advice and suggestions.

While I only drove the car for all of maybe 1 hour on the stock chip, I can say that there is an honest 10hp w/ the MarkD chip.  The reason I say this is because I regularly drive my very strong 1995 M3 and w/ the MarkD chip and in keeping the revs above 4000rpm, this engine can pull very nicely.  I am actually willing to say the performance gap between an M42 w/ chip vs. a stock S14 E30 M3 is very minimal.  Any difference in 0-60 is due to the heavy flywheel.  Once the car is moving, revs are in the powerband, this motor pulls very nicely even by today's standards.   I would say this car is a low 15 sec quarter, based on previous cars I've owned.  This is very subjective, but I would be shocked if the car is slower and 15.5 1/4 mile- which is mighty impressive for a car that has handling as its strength.
