Recommendation on this turbo...
« on: August 06, 2007, 11:09:52 PM »
Hi,

Im new to turbos hence limited knowledge. I have read lots into turbocharging in general and the problems i will have, i.e. fabricating a manifold. The only thing that i dont understand is the actual turbo unit...

I am considering bidding on this but need your opinions on whether it is a wise choice to achieve at least 230 bhp and high torque...

Thanks in advance

That turbo can deliver what you need. I would buy a new unit though. Prepare to have a complete rebuild. So there is not much difference what it wil cost. Do you plan to turbocharge a M42?

I bougt a T3 TBO335 (rebuilt from  REDAT USA) look`s the same, wil fitt nicely. But i woud go for a new rebult one. slow spool up old type turbo.
I scapt the t3 and godt a brand new Garret GT2860RS
BMW E82 120d Coupe and BMW Z3 1,9 m44

How was the T3? I need a turbo for 220-240hp @7-9 psi with very low LAG.

I was thinking about gt25r, gt28r or t3-60/ or t3-super 60 or t28...
what will have minor lag and fast spool-up with 7-9psi on our engines?

T3s can bee found for little money rebuilts, gt series it's expensive... if the difference is in only 100rpms full boost later, I would not spend $$$ for GT series... tell me please

The T3 i bugt was from a Dodge daytona 2,2. fitted it to a Volvo 740 2,3 liter. at 3000 rpm full boost 1 bar 14,7 psi. slow spolup. if you fit it to a 1,8 lter even slower soolup. old consept journal berings, smal compressor wheel. and large eksost turbin wheel.
Compressor housing A/R .42 Exhaust housing A/R .48 ( GT size 0.64 )Compressor inducer 42 mm Compressor exducer 60 mm Exhaust turbine diameter 48 mm

go for new types.garretts Gt journal berings ore better GT2860r(gt28r) ball bering type. perfect for 1,8.
build a good eksost manifold whit equal length of pipes for fast spolup and keep the pipes separt as loge as poseble.

i chose the GT2860RS for i got 2 liter not 1,8. strugling to finde a good turbo manifold my selfe.

I guess the t3 coud produse 230hp but at 1 bar 1,8 liter
BMW E82 120d Coupe and BMW Z3 1,9 m44

Sorry for the new question... still searching a "great" junkyard turbo...
how much spool-up was slow and in what conditions(high gears, low rpms)?

how was the car under 2500rpms? as the natural aspirated, or worse or better?
I'm asking this because in daily drive I'm 65% in 5gear of time under 3000rpms uphill on WOT:o So I want that the torque under 3000rpms don't be worse than natural aspirated ...

is T3 so poor?
thank you
