Idle Control Valve - Info?
« on: August 13, 2007, 07:50:38 PM »
I saw some posts about cleaning this. How would you clean it? It doesn't come apart from what I can tell.

Also, is the arrow pointing towards the intake manifold or towards the intake boot? I did the throttle coolant bypass and I have it pointing toward the intake manifold.

I sprayed the inside of it with carb cleaner, let it dry and was good to go. As fas as wich way it went, I don't remember.

For those who relocated this ICV, what did you use for hose? I have 5/8" heater hose and it collapses slightly when under vacuum. I'd like to get some better hose or relocate this to another area. I'll spray the ICV out with Carb cleaner and then see if it helps any.

The idle is definitely crappy and feels like a miss. I'll be doing the valve cover gasket tonight and check/clean the plug holes out. Nothing on the ignition side was touched when I worked on my car this weekend.

Well, it runs better with the arrow on the valve pointing towards the MAF, not the intake manifold. Definitely need to get a stiffer hose for this though.

I think my issue now is my ignition system. I think I have a cylinder not firing. There is a steady bubububububub sound to the engine and the exhaust pulses out of the tailpipe instead of flowing out somewhat evenly.

So I cleaned the ICV with Carb cleaner and it did seem to help.

Then my car oveheated again and I think I have a cracked head so I'm toast.

Odd, maybe I should reverse it..... when I get a new head, or a new engine decause this one is terminally ill.

I'll be getting the water out of the cylinders tomorrow if all goes as planned. Maybe it'll drian out overnight. It's sitting in the warehouse were I work now, tomorrow it comes home to say it's last goodbyes.

Does the idle control valve control idle speed by letting more air into the intake after it has passed through the AFM but before the throttle plates?
