Draining Battery - Different Situation
« on: July 28, 2007, 01:26:03 PM »
So My battery is draining, the only thing different in the car is a new head unit, the battery had some corrosion on it from before, and one terminal had blue shit coming out of it.
2 days after putting the head unit in - after driving fine for those 2 days, and the head unit working perfect - the battery drains, i jump start it, and the trunk light doesnt work, but neither does my head unit, or my spedometer or tachometer. the gas guage works, and i dont leave the car running long enough to see if the temp guage works.
However the car runs after i jump start it but then drains again over night.
I tried charging it over night with a battery charger and it didnt hold the charge, but it did jump start.
All of my fuses were fine except one, i replaced it and still nothing.
Do i have a bad battery? or do i have something short circuiting?

Does your battery indicator light on the dash work?  It can indicate some things.

If the trunk lights and stuff stopped working, you have a blown fuse.  Could be part of a larger problem.

Well take the radio out and see if it holds a charge overnight.  That’s where I'd start.  Just unplug it don’t cut the wires yet.  BTW who installed it?

did you install the deck yourself or have someone professional install it or have someone questionable install it  (like best buy, circuit city, etc).  i had a deck installed at best buy, had a drain problem and just put up with it.  i sold my car and the next owner called me the next day telling me he found the source of the drain.  best buy had done a major hackjob when installing the deck and cut several wires and messed some things up.  if that is the case you may want to pull your deck to check behind it.
