Hi i have a 1993 BMW 318i and i am desperatly trying to find parts and discover mods i can do to that perticular model.... im having a hard time finding upgrades for the 1993 4 cylinder.... could anyone help me know about some inexpensive mods and where to get upgrade parts?

What engine? M43,M42,M40?

i honestly dont know... i looked in the owners manual.... i might be missing it... where can i find out what engine model it is?

Hello,
you can look in the cars documents and see how much kw or hp the engine is rated, then we will be able to tell which engine you have.

To discover the true path to tuning enlightenment you should prepare yourself for a very long time of research and study, either that or slap some huge wheels on her and buy a decent stereo� just kidding

If you really think on modding this car I would suggest you get used to it, and then decide which mods are best for you, I would suggest starting with the suspension�

Or if you have enough money, and don't want to put up with all the bull crap (which is the favorite part for DIY mechanics like me), go to a reputable tuning saloon�

i beleive its 132 hp.... i know its in the 130's... i would do suspension but im on a tight budget because im only 16... what im trying to find is little things i could do or adjust for free or cheap things i could buy.... im not much of a gear head so i dont really know how to describe this well but is it ok to loosen or tighten the throttle cable so i can get a different gas mixture or more gas to the engine... can anyone tell me if this is ok and please explain how if its not bad

Hi 202. Welcome to the forum. If you have the M42 there are many many mods you can do, that aren't expensive. You have some awsome parents since your only 16 and your first car is a BMW. First, the throttle cable... no touchie. This isn't a carburated (I hope I spelled that write

) engine. If you mess with the cables in a carburated engine (pre 80's I believe in the BMW's) you can mess a little with the fuel/air mixture.

The throttle cable in a fuel injection system can be adjusted if you have play in your gas pedal. Lets say you are sitting in your driveway and you lightly tap on the gas. If the response (known as throttle response) isn't fairly quick, your throttle cable may be loose. If you tighten your throttle cable at tis point you will make the time from when you step on the gas to when the throttle body opens quicker.

Honestly I am going to start out by agreeing with the others so far. Get used to your car. Honestly these vehicles running stock are quite fun. I'm not going to preach any on youth driving, but others will probably agree with me that an experienced driver can have his hands full with mods on these engines, let alone someone who hasn't driven for long.

One of the important things to do before you just start getting things is take stock in what you have. Is it a manual or automatic.

Does anyone know when the 3 series went to OBD2?

One thing to do to find out more information on your car... call the dealership, give them your VIN and they can tell you when size, model and other information about your engine. Everything you would need. If you have an M42, there are plenty of mods you can do.

If low on budget, then take care of your car, they are quite expensive (compared to a VW

) to service…
Check all fluids (so that their levels are within norm, and their quality)
Also you can check wires, spark plugs, etc.
Read around the forum, almost everyone here has a M42, so you can pick much useful info on other threads…
P.S. I believe in US all cars went OBD II in 96'
In europe it was much later, 97 or 98 I think

... the only thing i found that was in mint condition was an auto...
