Driveshaft Vibration Dampener Needed?
« on: June 18, 2007, 03:16:02 PM »
I noticed that some e30 318's have a driveshaft vibration dampener installed at the forward end of the driveshaft. I have had 4 of these cars, and have never seen one. I have felt a slight vibration from my driveline on occasion, nothing major. Would one of these dampeners help? Do any of you guys have info about these dampeners?

The M42 driveshafts did not use them, I believe.

If you are having vibrations, check the flex disc (guibo) for cracks and other damage, as well as the rubber webbing on the center support bearing (CSB).  Those are common failure items that lead to vibration and even more broken stuff!

Visit HERE for a plethora of 318iS stuff and some other randomness.  Would you say I have a, plethora, of pinatas?

I agree with the common areas of trouble, but everything is new, including a new balanced driveshaft, that's why I'm looking into the dampener. Saw one on e-bay Canada listed for our cars, and BP's website mentions it as well. Maybe they were not installed on US cars. Looking at all the possibilities.
