High Mileage?
« on: May 22, 2007, 12:51:29 PM »
Well, thought i would say hi and i was wondering who else out there has high mileage m42's? Mine Turned 265,000 on the odo today.... Was wondering if this is uncharted territory. Would anyone believe original Si board batteries and no oil consumption? Mobil1 synthetic ftw... Have a good day guys. I'm going to try to get some pics up. But fair warning it's not as sexy as the one's i see on here... but not to horrible

My engine had 345k km just before the chain has cracked... But just before the crack:
Oil - Yes when reving much it eats 0.3 ltr/100km, when using it normally - no oil consumption spotted.

Compression -> 13 so perfect... On every cyllinder!!!!

Cyllinder surfaces not worn anywhere. Pistons not bad at all - but it feels that rebuilding the engine needs a new set.

Head - no cracks, just one combustion chamber damaged due to cams-stop.

The BMW made great work, constructing the M42 :)

560 km in 3 hours and 5 minutes completely legal!!!                  I love german highroads!!!

well, I guess I'm still young at 198k. No oil burning, original everything. Going to replace most of the gaskets and timing components this summer just for peace of mind. almost 200k on a chain generally isn't too good at 6K rpm ;)

260ish km's. But in the process of building a new motor.
as it stands, no oil consumption assuming no heavey abuse, when reving mad it uses a tad. the majority of its time is spent in the high rpms...

I'm really suprised at the durability of these motors. I bought this as a beater, for driving to work and grew to love it, seeing as my other car is currently a mazdaspeed 3, thats saying alot. I love handling of this car.just got through replacing the valve cover gasket. Hopefully that will keep it happy a little longer:) Yea, bmw did a great job with this motor. Timing components hardly worn !
