It just stopped. now it doesnt want to go on or off. I've been thinking it was the pilot bearing or the the input shaft just getting caught on the splines.

Its nice hearing someone else say it, now i dont feel so bad for thinking it.

Did the clutch make any odd sounds/grinding before, especially in neutral?  Maybe the pilot bearing crapped out and fell out of the crankshaft, and is siezed onto the input shaft end.  I will cross my fingers for you that it is not the case.

After you mentioned the pilot bearing possibly being the problem i figured 1 person ( besides myself) was enough. so i tried looking for the reciept from when i purchased the pilot bearing that is now in the car and couldnt find it. I opened the new pilot bearing that i ordered with my clutch kit and saw that the bearing was black and not peach (or whatever color you want to call it) like the one in the car now.

So as much as i didnt want to i decided to make a hole in the bellhousing and unbolt the pressure plate and hope i could see something. Then i put a screwdriver in the hole to get the pressure plate off the dowels. As im doing that the tranny starts coming off.

So heres what i see. the damn pilot bearing is stuck to the input shaft. I have not attempted to removed it but its really on there. Ill get it off tomorrow.

Now i have a damn hole in my bellhousing. I'm sure what i want to do with that. I dont know why i have to different pilot bearings when i ordered both from BMA, one was ordered over the phone and this second one i went to there Shop last Saturday and picked the kit up.

I'm sick so now that i finally have the bs done im going to bed. If i dont go to LBGP this weekend ill work on the trans some more. maybe just put a plate over the hole.

Well holy damn, I guessed right!

That is crazy man, putting such a hole in the bellhousing!  I commend you on doing what needed to be done though.  Drilling some holes and bolting in a small patch-plate should be sufficient here, or maybe mounting 2 steel patches and filling the gap between them with epoxy.  Good luck!

Well im glad you did because you encouraged me enough to put me over the edge and say fuck it just do it. i was thinking of drilling 4 small holes, tapping them and bolting a plate over the hole.

Yeah that should be more than sufficient.  I say go overboard and clean everything real well, and put some notecards over each side and fill it with epoxy.  Or just screw some thin aluminum/steel sheet over it since nobody will ever see it and you can get back in should you ever need to.  I demand pics either way :D !

I'm impressed too! The quick and dirty! If anyone asks you can say it's an inspection cover

Awesome!

A hole in the bell housing isn't a bad thing, just cover it up. After blowing several pressure plates on a previous car apart, my bell housing had some ventilation in it as well.

I'd use a puller to get the bearing off. Harbor freight, Sears, Autozone etc should have what you need.

I'm impressed as well that you did that. Don't forget to get a new dowel pin as yours seems a bit messed up. Congrats on getting it off.

How did you blow up your pressure plates? Yeah i'll get a puller from one of those places.

Yeah i maybe be ordering as much new stuff for the trans as possible since it is out and super easy to clean and get to the whole thing. I'm gonna replace
my fluid too.

I cant wait to get my Z4 3.0 shift kit too.
