When I had the carpet out of my car I noticed that the carpet and all of that padding are really heavy. Has anyone replaced the padding with pad for house carpet. I've done this on several other cars and it worked very well from the standpoint of noise and temperature.

Mainly remove the seats and the rear of the console. It actually goes under the front of the console under the dash. Everybody just cuts it there because it would be a real hassle and the side pieces cover it.

The new carpet pad is just as effective but much lighter and mildew/moisture proof as well. The old carpet stuff just soaks up moisture and can produce rust on the floors especially for us snow people that can trudge in salt from time to time.
