Fitting the rover M47 crank do i need to modify it?
« on: December 23, 2008, 05:28:39 AM »
Hi, i've read on here that you can use the rover crank from a rover 75 tdi to make a 2.1 as its the same as the bmw 320d one as BMW own rover and use the same engine.

Can anyone confirm if i can use this crank as theres been some contradicting posts on here also what mods if any have to be done to fit it?

Cheers Matt

If it's an M47 crank you should have another woodruff key ground as the snout of the crank is longer and the key is in the wrong position.  I think you need a different crank sprocket and crank bolt too.

Thanks for that Rob,i'll check when it comes. Have used a different crank?

If you could message me with some specs of your internals that would be great. i respect that you want to keep them hush hush as you race the car in the tight class of the BMW championship and dont want every one to know but i'm in the UK so theres no chance of me racing and i wont pass on the info.

Cheers Matt

I bought a M47R engine from a Rover 75. So I've got the crankshaft.

The nose is clearly too short. But I saw that some modifications are possible.

I read a lot of posts on the forum : I can't find pics of the modifications (the making).

When I compare M42 crankshaft and M47R crankshaft, I disappointed. There is too many differences. Even the hex bolt is different.

Could you help me with pics and explanation ? Must I buy a e46 M47 crank ?
