E36 -> E30 exhaust manifold fitment?
« on: June 27, 2014, 12:16:29 AM »

Hi,

From Australia here, so we're RHD ;)

I've read that there's issues with the steering column getting in the way of the exhaust manifold when swapping an M42 from an E36 -> E30.

So I figure I can look to Ebay for a solution.  *But - would I be right that all these ebay ones are probably going to only be for LHD models??
Not sure if anyone knows but I think I've seen some discussion about it around here before...

Been looking at them but struggling to figure it out!!

Cheers.

Hi Jay Vee
The steering column will get in the way with a e36 m42 into a e30

Most will be lhd exhaust manifolds, but you could grab one from the Europe, and just ask you should be right then. Getting one made is a pain and very expensive! Europe is the way to go, but postage sucks but that's the only way unless you go custom.

Cheers Rohan

Thanks a lot mate,

I may have a contact who could fabricate one for me... but it seems that stumping up for postage from Europe might have to be the way to go.

Definitely gives me the right tree to go barking up anyway ;)

out of interest, do you know how expensive 'very expensive' is? (for custom headers) haha - would just be interested to get an idea if you know...

I have a custom stainless mani sitting in my shed gathering dust as it's LHD.

Something in the order of $600+. Because it's a one off. There are people around that make them I've seen a Malaysian and nz rhd headers for e30, but they are quite rare.

is a S65B40 header (well only the right side :P ) not an option?
im not sure what it does on performance... or clear the steeringshaft..

Got any pics? But I don't think so nasty tight and steering column makes it real hard!

He is using an S65B40 header on his M42.. but that is a LHD car.
maybe he can supply you with a 'front' view picture?

Without a front view can't be sure but I believe that the steering column would travel right through the 4 way collector of the manifold.

Just wondering what compression do you run that bad boy on? Car weight?
