cluster battery

I got a 91 318is. Have done lots of work on it. But the cluster is a new item for me. Got it out and replaced all the bulbs. I've read that some are replacing the battery. Were is the battery? Is it soldered on a board? Should I go ahead and replace it since I've got the cluster out?
