m40 m42 powersteering pumps

hi ther all im new to this forum im droping a m42 into my e30 on the weekend but it dont have a pump on the engine now ive got bits of the old m40 lump that was in ie starter alternator an power steering pump now will the m40 pump bolt on m42 ive check real oem an the pumps are different numbers but that dont mean it wont fit  ::) so can anyone help me out ?

I pulled my pump out totally, are you sure you need it? Not sure if they're the same - we didn't get the SOHC motor over here.

I would bet that the pump will fit, but that you need the correct M42 p/s pulley installed on the pump. 
This is the case with the E30 M3.  The pump part number is different, but it is just because it uses an engine-specific pulley.  Swap the pulleys and it should work.

My ps pump from m40 bolted to m42 block no problem both from engines where from e30s.
But if you mix car models ie e30 and e36 not too sure, but positive you will have issues with fan belts and dip sticks!
