Sway bar set up

hi;

I have a set of H&R anti-roll bars on my e30. the front is set to hard (innermost hole) while the rear has it at the mid (center hole). the handling in corners, while improved is a little twitchy under braking. it tends to skate a bit not in straight line. I don't like this feeling.

has anyone of you experienced with sway bar settings and which is most balanced? please share your experiences.

I have a set of Ireland engineering 22/19 adjustable bars.  I have the front set to medium and the rear as soft as I can and the car seems to be well balanced. I would suggest you reduce the rear bar and see what happens.

Generally these are your options for changing the handling characteristics of the swaybar.
Understeer: reduce front or increase rear anti-roll/ sway bar settings.
Oversteer: increase front or reduce rear anti-roll/ sway bar settings.

You may also want to check your alignment something there could be out of whack.

thanks. I did my alignment a few days ago when replacing a somewhat loose balljoint on the right side. the front has +2.4mm toe and -ve camber 2.35 (I have lowered springs). I played with the toe in and it is not due to this. but the twitching under braking is pronounced with the sway bars. I think I will change the settings today. I will change to front medium/rear soft to see how it behaves

I almost bought the IE bars but I heard the rear would produce noise because it's using clamps. is this true in your case?

I'm not sure, I never really noticed that much more noise with the additional trunk reinforcement mounts that the Ireland bars have.  My car has a lot of suspension components that aren't stock so it always seems fairly noisy these days.

do you do tracking? if you don't and you use a lot of PU bushes, it will weaken your car. e30 is old chassis and the metals are not as strong as when they are new.

e30 is my daily car. I use all STANDARD rubber bushes from BMW. they are more pliant and forgiving and hence protect the body. because I do a lot of street driving and enjoy fast twisty roads. over here, we can drive a lot faster than in usa.

Yeah I track the car a few weekends a year, it is my weekend/fun car not a daily so I probably only put 3-5000 miles on it each year.  I have powerflex bushings everywhere but the swaybars and control arms, I'm not too concerned about it at this point.

How did the changing the sway bar settings work out?

I did not have the time to do this yet. but I am looking for a set of engine brackets and motor mounts and this is real hard to find (left bracket). what is a good brand of brake pads for street use - cheap and good and long lasting lol

I have not tracked with this car yet. but tempted to do. I tracked a few times in Malaysia using my alfa 156 selespeed
