These headers are a copy of the supersprint headers BMP and others sell. I used them and only noticed alittle more power up top. The real strangle on this engine is the cams and engine management. They are not smog legal, sorry. The stock exhaust "header" is very good and you already have one.

thanks for the info.  one of the bolts that connect to the center section on my current headers got bent so i was in the market for some replacements.  i already ordered a stock header from a guy on r3v for cheap, but was juss wonderin if these were any good.  i already got a catco highflow cat and a dynomax super turbo muffler, but i may upgrade to a full magnaflow setup in the future

When looking over the new to us m42, my brother and I were like, "Maybe it has headers!"  We knew it didn't, but very impressive BMW, very impressive. :p

I've seen the Ebay ones in the US, much like these found over here:

Isnt the larger diameter over the stock header going to help the flow of the engine? Of course helped by a better air-intake.

I dont think the real problem with this header is the size of the primary pipes, I think it would be the collector. It does not look to be a very good transition to the tail pipe.

The other feature that this header does not have are the exhaust test ports at the head flange. This may not seam like much but when you are tunning or chasing a running problem these test ports can be very handy.

If you are curious buy one and try it out, they are cheap enough that this can be done with out too much remorse.

Stick with the stock.  The Tri-Y design helps exhaust gas scavenging a lot.  You would maybe see some improvement up top with a 4-to-1 collector, but you could hurt the midrange power.  For the cost of an aftermarket unit, it is not worth it IMO.  Look into a high-flow cat if you want some help in the exhaust department, it is the only worthwhile thing I did.

I will say though...those headers sure are pretty!

PS
Anyone had a thermal coating put on their header?  I was looking into a Swaintech coating at one point.
