I've never taken an automotive manual tranny apart so I'm just guessing, but from my motorcycle experiences it sounds like the shifter didn't engage 2nd gear. Of course, bikes have shift dogs instead of synchros...but maybe the shifter didn't engage 2nd all the way & a synchro is grinding. Maybe a worn or broken shift fork on 2nd gear? Could be that the shifter cup cracked & jammed the linkage in 2nd too.
I don't think the guibo or CSB would cause the transmission to jam in gear; but it's worth a look regardless. Used trannies are pretty cheap - there's one for sale on this site right now.

When did the failure happen? Where did the shifter break? Can the car actually move under power? Unfortunate but interesting.
