I had everything laid out as it came out of the motor, but that was a month ago and I have since moved some things.

The outer rotor has some little square marks on it, i'm pretty sure that they were facing out tomards the oil pump cover when I took it out of the timing case.
The inner rotor has a lip on one side and is totally flat on the other....which side faces 'out' towards the oil pump cover????

Help, I can go no further till I figure this out

As far as I can remember, the square marks face the same way, and the inner gear can only fit one way (lip toward the front). You'll see that the cover won't fit on at all if you get it backwards.

Yeah, my prob was that I had the wrong pump, the M44 is a bit thicker.

I have since ordered, received, and installed the proper pump.
