Coupler on Steering wants to wrestle..
« on: September 13, 2011, 04:14:33 PM »
that SOB .. he has me in a headlock !!  Finally got to getting the E36 steering rack installed.. everything comes out easily.. except for the upper part of the steering coupler. doesn't want to come off the top spline.. 13mm bolt removed, PB blaster, banged it, screwdriver in slot, cursed, spat, asked it to marry me ..nothing...
just keep at it,  or does someone have a magic spell i can throw at it ?

Thanks Folks

mine was the same, it actually came out wiht spline that goes into the steering column. You just have to loosen the spline nut under the dash. If you can get a small punch on the coupler, you can also bang it out slowly from the top.

^Yeah, I finally gave up and did mine the same way (loosen the spine nut and pull out the shaft). That also gave me the incentive to fabricate a new plate with the hole offset so the boot fit without a gap.
