98' 318is - ABS Issue
« on: November 20, 2010, 07:27:08 AM »
Hi all,

My car has presented error code 33 - 'Operation of rear inlet valve faulty'. After doing some research, it looks likely that my ABS Module needs to be replaced, which isnt too much of a problem as they can be picked up relatively cheaply.

My problem is that there seems to be a large range of ABS module numbers for the bmw e36, so I am unsure whether I could get get a generic E36 318i ABS module with a slightly different model number (which is easier to find), or do I need the specific one for my 318is with the exact same model number (which is seeming almost impossible)?

Is there much difference between the ABS modules for different E36 models? If so, what would happen if I put the ABS module of a different E36 model into my car?

Thanks for your help in advance, much appreciated.

I'm just guessing here, as I've never worked with these systems before, but I'm sure there are a bunch of them, since the ASC-T system integrates the ABS system for traction control.  I'd figure you'd have to match the options in your car with a similar one.

Might also be that different manufacturers built the units from year to year.  IDK if Bosch & Siemens would play well together.
