You'll have to verify that it'll fit (all E30s use the same rear subframe which is what the diff bolts to but the output flange is different in some way so I don't know), however I put a 3.91 from an 325is automatic in my 318is - its great. Drops the revs about 500 rpm at 60 mph and it doesn't run out of revs in 1st gear like with the 4.10. Then again I've done some engine mods and am running a 323i flywheel so I don't really need the higher gearing of the 4.10.

you can find a perfect fit, small case, 3.91 LSD at your local yard. Just gotta find an 85 318i. I found one on eBay from an unknowing seller w/supposedly 90k miles on it for $250 shipped. Upside of a slow economy = buyers market. Swapping to 205/50/15 tires yields almost same gearing as 4.10, but I might get a set of 215/50/15s, can't decide...
