Odometer/tripmeter problems (not gears)
« on: September 18, 2010, 08:54:31 AM »
I replaced the odometer gears about 2 years ago and everythings been fine. Last week both stopped working. After a few days they started working again but about 50% faster than it should be. Then it began working almost correctly and now it's back to turning way too fast again. Any clues as to what would be causing them to turn too fast?

I'd figure the gears have to be OK, since it'd spin slower if they were bad.  Sounds like a dodgy transistor or cap on the driver board, I've never seen a good write-up on replacing them.

Do you have a spare cluster?  Swapping that driver board might be the simplest way to find the trouble.  I'd hate to replace an odo unit...I want to know how far I've gone...
