m42 Engine ticking

I have a "ticking" in my engine like tappets needing adjustment, then i have an engine cackle, like a ping ...This car was a Lazarus that I'm resuscitating after a terrible crash it had where the oil sump was even busted. If the Engine ran out of oil at that occasion would it affect the Cam driveline? or even coz it to sound as if tappets need adjustment?

Timing chain/tensioner? That's the most typical cause of ticky ticky on these motors.
