Fuel Injector Sludge
« on: May 25, 2010, 11:04:20 AM »
I pulled my fuel rail and injectors out.  There is a black residue in the fuel injector ports.  It has the viscosity of peanut butter, but is waxy to the touch.  It's heaviest on ports #2 and #3.  The pictures make it look thinner than it is.  It is completely opaque and the metal is not visible underneath.

I know a lot of guys on here have upgraded or replaced their fuel injectors.  Is what I'm seeing normal or does it indicate a problem?  Thanks!

no problem, everyone had that from using conventional oil and lacking a catch can. take off your lower manifold and clean it off. the smallest holes are the hardest parts to clean obviously, but especially in the injector ports. on mine, once everything was 95% clean the remaining grime was rock hard and really seemed to have become part of the lower manifold. even with a ton of brake cleaner/wd40 and trying to move single black beads of "sand" with a toothpick and screw driver, nothing would budge.

i wish i had made plans to take my intake manifold to get blasted, or bothered to buy throttle body cleaner or white gas or anything more more useful than brake cleaner & wd40, as it was a huge time (& rag/paper towel) waster. the job = 30 mins. the cleaning = 3+ hrs among noxious fumes
