Windshield Wiper Problem
« on: May 09, 2010, 05:14:53 PM »
My wipers turn on and go to the left but then get stuck on the way back down. If I give them a push they will go, but continuously get stuck in the same position. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think there is a copper rotary connector in the motor that might be burned out.  I had a linky some time back.  IIRC it's almost impossible to get them out...I did it once just to practice.  I'll post more after I get the kids in bed.

Found it:

Massive PITA.  It took me an afternoon to get it out, and I'd already pulled the entire heater box assembly from the car.  IDK if it can come out any other way.

Thanks Dave. This should be a treat..... I think i'm going to go ahead and get a new wiper motor. It isn't for the 318 so I won't feel as bad ripping things apart. You wouldn't happen to have one would you?

I have a whole spare motor & armature.  It's missing the retaining nuts and trim cups.  Not sure if it works, let me see if I can test it out for you & send some pics.  Is it for the older 318i you picked up?

Its for the 87 325 that I picked up. Im assuming its the same motor/armature. Im just trying to get this car on the road. I need to get it inspected and obviously the wipers need to be working. Thanks Dave.
