So, how much should an e30 intake cost for m42?
« on: April 29, 2010, 02:45:10 PM »
So... I haven't yet seen the damage present inside my engine, but I currently have an e36 m42 in my 1991 e30 318iS that is not running, got compression hitting the coolant tract so we are taking it down Saturday to see the deal. Anyway, I have been trying to source an e30 intake, exhaust and head to stick in this car so I can have a nice looking all 91 era car, I hate the way this one looks and performs and it also won't be very nice once I get a turbo setup. SO, I need to strip what I can from my newer mani and source an old one. I am looking at 300 from the closest salvage place with one. I see plenty of them for sale for about 1/4 of that price but it seems my requests to buy these parts are invisible as I have yet to get one replay from about 18 posts and emails for one. The parts included for 300 will be the upper and lower intake with brackets and the fue rail, all separated too so I would have to find yet another car being parted or spend hundreds on new OEM crap. I am about to start designing my own, seems like I can buy enough material to tig my own up for less than 300 using the premade parts on a couple sites I have found. Any ideas?

Your head is probably cracked in the #2 cylinder.  So what I gather is you need everything that attaches to the head from an e30.  I've just acquired 2 complete M42's and probably have everything you are looking for.  Where are you located?

I am in Rock Hill South Carolina. I was supposed to be busy to day but I am actually going to be able to go to the shop and pull the head to see whats up. I have a guy with  head in town, and a member here has been in touch with the intake parts, but if it falls through, I will be in touch. I am sort of limited on cash for a couple days, but I am trying to pay something like 200 shipped if possible. I will have a little more to spend mid week but ultimately getting the car running again is most important.

Are you looking for a head or an intake manifold?  I have a spare intake manifold.
