First of all, I should say that I've had an E30 325 for a year or two now, but I'm completely new to the M42. I just started pulling apart the used E36 M42 that I bought and I found something that's confusing me.

What are these hoses going into the injectors? They look like vacuum lines, but I'm not sure. My 325 doesn't have these and the mustang injectors that I was going to swap over from the 325 don't either.

Also, does this look normal in the injector wiring harness, or has someone been playing around in there in the past?

Thanks! I searched "air shroud injectors" on here to see what the general consensus is, but this forums search engine apparently just searches word by word so I just got a shitload of results about injectors and radiator fan shrouds.

So, what's the general consensus on these? Any way (or reason?) to remove them?

The vast majority of people on here have an E30 M42 so there is very little experience with these. If it was my engine swap I would reuse the E30 intake manifold and lose that whole mess.

Should've specified... this is going into an E36 that I bought without a motor.

The air shroud injectors were used for emissions and perhaps they made a marginal MPG improvement at low rpms. I'm not sure what the E36 OBD2 will say--if anything--if the air injection is removed.
