I will be pulling an m42 out and dropping an m52 in its place. anyone interested in the 4 banger. it runs like a top. ight be good to see it run while its in the car. 160,000 miles. its in tampa florida area. everything works and works well. coming out of a convertible. driven from florida to michigan on a regular basis even at 160,000 with no fear or problems. doesnt burn any oil and idles very good. no weirdness during acceleration. all rubber is new. bone stock and all oem except water pump and thermostat are not bmw. its pre obd2. car is in tampa florida.
maint items that have been replaced probably more just forgot:
coolant and under disa heater hoses, belts, pulleys, engine mounts, plugs, intake boot, knock sensors, all intake seals and vacuum lines, plugs, water pump and thermostat and housing, the fuel injectors have been completely rebuilt and the intake is spotless. oxygen sensor new too.
getrag 5 speed and vert rear end new oil every 20k. rear end is a really high ratio for the vert but I dont remember what it is 75 mph is about 3500 rpm. even the exhaust is good except for the heatshield on the muffler rattles. I might need some parts here and there but most all of it has to go. the car does have ews but im not re-keying the car so your going to have to do the ews delete ship or I think you can clip the green wire to get around it.
no noises or temp problems.
it doesnt leak anything. the cooling system was completely descaled about 10k ago and is super clean with bmw more expensive than gold coolant. ac works great and it has the hard to find seiko pump. recently flushed and re-filled.
